Your Impact

You Make it Possible

We are only able to provide ongoing financial support to the Gibsons & District Public Library because of you, our community. Your donations, your bequests, your participation in our fundraising events, and your efforts to let others know about our work, are what make it all possible.

We provide funding to the Library every year. Our contributions are generally targeted towards capital expenditures, with the Library letting us know each year what they would like to use the funds for, in response to input they have received from Library users. On top of that annual funding, the Foundation has also contributed to some significant capital projects over the years.

Library Foundation Contributions Over the Years

Look at what you've made possible through your support of the Library Foundation!

2022

The Library Foundation provided nearly $40,000 for the purchase and installation of a remote "book locker" at the Gibsons & Area Community Centre. This locker allows residents to pick up and drop off Library books in Upper Gibsons, and is particularly useful to those who don't have a vehicle to drive down to the Library's location in Lower Gibsons. The locker fit in perfectly with one of our mandates, which is to support outreach of the Library into the community. That year, we also contributed  $5,000 for additional STEAM Kits and for the repair and maintenance of the current inventory of kits.

2020 - 2022

During COVID lockdowns, we contributed over $15,000 for the purchase of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) learning kits to support parents and guardians who were providing at-home education for children while schools were closed. We continue to support maintenance of these kits, which can be signed out from the Library by anyone.

2019

That year the Foundation contributed just under $9,000 for a multi-media audio/visual system in the Mainil meeting room. This system allows for Zoom meetings, projection of material for library seminars for staff and the public, ongoing classes for staff and the community, and meetings for the library and other interest groups. The system proved to be particularly useful for continuing with hybrid meetings used by community groups during COVID when not all participants were able to attend in person. We also funded purchase of some book club sets in 2019 and 2020.

2018

Funding of $5,000 was provided by the Foundation for the purchase of a digital camera, Raspberry Pi modules, Sphero robots, and compatible iPads to use with the Sphero robots.

2016

This was a year of significant contribution from the Foundation, which contributed $35,000 towards the  Library's Reconfiguration Project which was designed to make better use of their existing space. This was in addition to the contribution of an annual amount of $5,000.

2015

$5,000 was provided to the Library towards cost of enhanced exterior signage for the Library.

2014

The annual funding of $5,000 was used to purchase computer tablets, which could be used by patrons in the Library, along with relevant attachments.

2013

Annual funding of $5,000 was used to retain consultants to redesign the empty space at the entrance to the Library.

2012

$2,000 of funding was provided  in support of the Library's Children's Education Program. The program took place in July, and included a visit by "Science World on The Road" and the purchase of iPads loaded with apps for child education.
