Supporting Gibsons & District Public Library, Together
We Love Our Library!
Sunshine Coast residents love the Gibsons & District Public Library. And so do we!
We're the Gibsons & District Library Foundation. We're here to raise funds for our local library - funds that go beyond the core funding provided by government. These extra funds allow the Library to offer new programs, and undertake new capital projects like the recently installed book locker in Upper Gibsons.
We're a volunteer-run organization whose success is made possible by the contributions of members of the community.
Recent News
Youth Area Enhancement Project
2024 marked the completion of the first phase of the Library's Youth Area Enhancement Project, wholly funded by the Gibsons & District Library Foundation. The revamped youth area features new furniture that includes a comfortable sofa, coffee table, bean bag chairs, homework desk, stackable stools, art supply storage, new lighting fixtures, plants, and decor.
The second phase of the project, to be completed in Spring 2025, is its technology component that will add six Hublet shared tablets and docking system, a virtual reality headset with games and software, electronic drawing tablet, and a C-Pen text-to-speech reader.
GDLF funding of approximately $52,000 was supplied for this innovative project that provides a fresh, welcoming, and functional space in the Library for local teens and tweens.

The Library is open to everybody: whether younger or older, newcomers, long-time residents, or tourists passing through. No matter your gender, orientation, cultural or racial background, the Library welcomes you.
Enthusiastic Staff
Library staff are knowledgeable, kind, welcoming and eager to help you access the many services and materials the library offers. We are so fortunate to have this committed, generous team working in our community!
Books and More!
Of course there are lots of books at the library. But you'll also find computers with Internet, magazines, STEAM kits, a "library of things" you can borrow, a meeting room you can rent, and even a new sound-proofed "pod".
Engaging Programs
The Library hosts a variety of programs and events for all ages, including LEGO® building, singalongs and movies for kids, Dungeons & Dragons for teens, and meditation, book clubs, and tech help for adults.
How to Support your Library
Receive the Foundation Newsletter
By receiving our email newsletter, you'll be notified when we hold events to increase awareness about the Library Foundation or raise funds. Many in the community don't know that there is a foundation supporting the Gibsons & District Public Library. When you attend events and tell your friends, you help support the library.
Donate to the Foundation
Donations to the Foundation are invested responsibly and conservatively, with the goal of generating income over the long term to support the library annually with selected projects. Some of the projects we've helped fund are the new book locker, library renovations, and purchase of AV equipment, iPads and STEAM learning kits.
Volunteer with the Foundation!
If you have a passion for libraries, enjoy being involved in the community, and want to collaborate with like-minded people, please reach out to us. Volunteer opportunities include one-time activities, such as manning our table at a public event, through to longer-term commitments such as joining our board.
What We Do at the Foundation
We support the Library's educational programs by providing enhanced facilities, materials and equipment.
We fund community outreach programs for those unable to come to the Library building.
We receive gifts, bequests, funds and property to hold, invest, administer and distribute to financially support the Library.
Gibsons & District Public Library
I am a regular library user and honestly don’t know what I would do without it!
I frequently use their website to put books on hold and appreciate how quick and easy it is to stop in, grab my holds and use the self checkout. I read a lot of new fiction and have saved hundreds of dollars by using the library. One of my favourite features is the "Staff Picks" sticker - Sue has great taste! I’m never disappointed!
I check out cookbooks quite frequently to use for work, to learn new techniques and recipes to share with my students.
